Youth Club Pre-school
Safeguarding

Our setting has a duty under the law to help safeguard children against suspected or actual ‘significant harm’. Our employment practices ensure we protect children against the likelihood of abuse in our pre-school, and we have a procedure for managing complaints or allegations against a member of staff.

All of our staff and committee hold a DBS, and undertake regular safeguarding training to ensure they are kept up to date on the latest guidelines and legislation.

Our way of working with children and their parents ensures we are aware of any problems that may emerge and can offer support, including referrals to appropriate agencies when necessary, to help families in difficulty. By law, (Children Act 1989) our staff are required to pass on information where there is a concern about a child’s welfare, including non-accidental injury, neglect, emotional or sexual abuse. Where there are grounds for concern we are encouraged to be over-cautious and seek advice, rather than risk a child’s safety. Occasionally, this duty placed on staff means that a concern is passed on which is later shown to be unfounded. It is our hope that parents and carers will appreciate how difficult it is for Pre-school staff to carry out this sensitive responsibility and accept that staff are acting in good faith and in the best interests of all children.
